Lesson 26/32 · Open Topic
This session is deliberately left open for the mentor to use as he/she sees fit. A guest speaker, a company visit, or a sponsor challenge. The choice is yours!
Lesson Overview
This session is deliberately left open for the mentor to use as he/she sees fit. Perhaps to share some knowledge that he/she feels is important, or to go out for a visit to a company, or to bring another speaker.
This is the lesson during which we do the sponsor challenge. Some companies sponsor entrepreneurship clubs and in return the students work on their business challenge.
(1) To allow time for the mentor to include topics of his/her choice.
(2) To give time for visits of guests in the club or sponsor challenges.
(3) To serve as a buffer if some sessions are missed during the year.
These sessions may take place at any time during the year — they are not tied to a specific point in the curriculum sequence.
Activities
• Guest speaker — invite someone from the business world or a parent with an interesting story.
• Company visit — take students to see how a real business operates.
• Sponsor challenge — if the club is sponsored, students work on the sponsor's business challenge.

Agent Context
Out-of-sequence session with three purposes: (1) allow time for the mentor to include topics of his/her choice; (2) give time for visits of guests in the club or sponsor challenges; (3) serve as a buffer if some sessions are missed during the year. These sessions may take place at any time during the year. This is also the lesson during which the sponsor challenge is conducted: some companies sponsor entrepreneurship clubs and in return the students work on their business challenge.
- Open session — deliberately left without a fixed lesson plan; mentor decides content
- Sponsor challenge — designated lesson for delivering sponsor business challenges to students
- Guest speaker or company visit — mentor can bring external expertise or take students outside
- Progress check-in — ~30 min team check-in at the start (only if product already in development); guest participates
- Buffer session — can absorb missed sessions from earlier in the year
- Knowledge sharing — mentors are encouraged to share plans and reflections so successful open sessions can be adopted by others or included in next year's curriculum
- Decide on session format: guest speaker, company visit, or sponsor challenge
- Coordinate with office (sponsor challenge) or guest/company well in advance
- Run team progress check-in (~30 min) if product is already in development; guest participates
- Invite guest to join the team progress discussion
- Share lesson plan, materials, and reflections with other mentors after the session
