This lesson is done in the week preceding the Scavenger Hunt event. It does not have to be the fourth lesson in sequence. If the club will not participate in the Scavenger Hunt, only the second part (Mission Impossible) can be done.

We are emphasizing the importance of soft skills: being able to convince others, overcoming fear, and thinking on your feet. The scavenger hunt gives participants a real-world opportunity to try all of this out. This lesson prepares them for it and also touches on another key aspect: teamwork.

Какво е Scavenger Hunt?What is the Scavenger Hunt?

Scavenger Hunt е ежегодно есенно събитие на Ustvarjalnik/uSchool. Членове на клубове от цялата страна се събират и образуват един или повече отбора, които се надпреварват. Отборите получават списък с задачи с различна трудност — от лесни („вземи десет визитки") до трудни („накарай знаменитост да туитне снимка с табела с името на отбора ти"). Всяка задача носи точки; отборът с най-много точки печели изцяло платено учебно посещение в чужда държава за среща с местни стартъпи.

The Scavenger Hunt is an annual autumn event by Ustvarjalnik/uSchool. Members of clubs from all over the country come together and form one or more competing teams. Teams receive a list of tasks ranging from simple ("get ten business cards") to quite challenging ("get a celebrity to tweet a picture of themselves holding a sign with your team name"). Each task has a point value; the team with the most points wins an all-expense-paid study visit to a foreign country to meet with startups there.

The mentor presents the scavenger hunt to the participants and encourages them to apply and compete. Emphasize the educational benefit and the fun nature of the event. All information will be posted well ahead of time on the website. The mentor should register their team.

Most worthwhile endeavors are only possible when people come together around a common goal — but this is not always easy. The mentor introduces the next activity, which will test the participants' ability to cooperate, communicate, and accomplish a difficult task within a limited time frame.

Mission Impossible — explain the rules

The mentor gets everyone in a huddle and explains: "You have 30 minutes to complete all the tasks. Missing even one means you have failed." The mentor reads the tasks aloud, answers questions, places the list on the floor/desk, and remains quiet until time runs out. Calls out when 10, 5, or 1 minute remains; counts down the final seconds.

Why are the tasks so funny?

Задачите са нарочно смешни — така дейността е забавна за учениците и те са много по-мотивирани. Задачите са наредени така, че да изискват координация: някои изискват участие на всички, а други могат да се изпълнят сами. These tasks are deliberately funny — this makes the activity amusing for the high school students and they will be much more motivated. The tasks are set up to challenge the team to coordinate: some demand involvement from everyone, some can be done alone. Everything must be photographed or on video — also useful for uploading to the website.

Adapt the tasks in advance!

The mentor must beforehand adjust the task list: verify that all tasks are possible at this location, and that tasks involving a specific number of people are appropriate to the group size. The template was tested with 15 people and 30 minutes. With a much smaller group — increase the number of tasks to account for the team having an easier time coordinating.

PURPOSE

Emphasize soft skills: convincing others, overcoming fear, thinking on your feet. The Scavenger Hunt is a real-world event that lets participants test these skills. This lesson prepares them for it and also introduces teamwork through the Mission Impossible group activity.

STRUCTURE

Part 1 — Present the Scavenger Hunt: what it is, how it works, the winning prize (all-expense-paid study visit abroad), how to register. Mentor must register the team.
Part 2 — Mission Impossible: a 30-minute group challenge with 17 tasks. All tasks must be completed or the mission fails. If the club is not participating in the Scavenger Hunt, only Part 2 is mandatory (add 4–5 tasks, extend by 5 min).
